Why We’re Hyped for Outlast 2

Outlast 2 is upon us and we couldn’t be more hyped for its release! We love horror games. We love playing through a dark and scary environment and getting our pants scared off. Whether it’s the slow building tension that scares us or the monster that jumps out and grabs us, we’re always thankful we’re alive after experiencing a terrifying fright. With Outlast 2 here, we thought we’d go over a few of the reasons why we can’t wait to get our hands on this horrifying game!

The Atmosphere of a New World

Red Barrels, the developer of Outlast and Outlast 2, do a miraculous job of bringing their worlds to life. Whether we’re trekking through an asylum full of mentally disturbed patients, doctors and priests, or spelunking through a village full of end-day believers, Red Barrels is able to weave a horrific experience for even the most robust horror fan.

Outlast 2 has us taking the role of Blake, an investigative journalist who, while looking into the mysterious murder of a young woman, loses his wife in the middle of the Supai region of Arizona. What follows is a harrowing journey through a village removed from the world, full of people who believe the end of days is upon them.

From what we’ve seen from trailers and demos, the entire game is going to be terrifying. One thing we’ve always appreciated about Outlast are the sounds that work together to build the atmosphere. To take advantage (and make the experience scarier), a headset like the Elite 800 or the Elite 800X, with their noise-cancelling technology and DTS Headphone:X 7.1 Surround Sound technology, are always a good idea.

The noise-cancelling blocks out the noise from the world around you while DTS Headphone:X boosts the elements within the game. Diving headfirst into a terrifying environment and being absorbed by the atmosphere is one of the best things when it comes to horror games, and Outlast 2 is going to deliver.

Solving a New Mystery

With the first Outlast, we ventured into an old and creepy asylum to solve a mystery, but now we want something new to sink our teeth into! As we mentioned above, Outlast 2 has the player investigating the murder of a young, pregnant woman who went missing in a village of people who believe the end of the world is happening. That’s the perfect concoction for something terrible happening, and we can’t wait to solve the mystery.

Not only that, but Blake’s wife has gone missing, so obviously the race is on to help her before she ends up like the other poor lady. We’re hyped to unravel the story in Outlast 2 and figure out where Blake’s wife went, what is going on in this town, and who – or what – is to blame…

Being Scared Silly

Or, also known as, “$#!7, What was that?!” If we said it once, we’ve said it twice – we love being scared and Outlast 2 will deliver that feeling in spades. Call us crazy, but there’s something disturbingly exciting about being scared. Getting together with friends and watching a scary movie is everyone’s favorite pastime, but now with games, you can experience the feeling of terror on a whole new level.

The Outlast 2 trailers and demo had us shrieking with fear, and we’re certain it’s going to take a lot to get us through the full game in one piece – but we’re excited. The townsfolk in Outlast 2 seem terrifying, and much like the first game, there’s very little you can do to fight off an attacker – it’s all about running for your life.

In Outlast 2, the danger doesn’t end when you flee from an enemy, because like Jason Voorhees, they’ll keep following you. To survive, you’ll need to find something to hide in, whether it’s a locker or under a bed. Even then, as the enemy skulks past your hiding spot, you can never be too sure if you’re entirely safe. The reward of feeling scared is coming out the other side alive.

Outlast 2 is set to be a truly harrowing experience as Blake tries to uncover the mystery surrounding this odd village in the backwaters of Arizona. We’re preparing our Elite 800 (while our Xbox brethren are preparing their Elite 800X) , closing the curtains, and steeling ourselves for what is surely going to be a truly horrifying experience.
