What We Know About Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1

What We Know About Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available right now, but players are looking forward to December 10th, 2020 for some major action.  Activision has confirmed that Season 1 content for the game will launch on that date, bringing in all sorts of brand-new components, features, and more.  Activision hasn’t shared full details on what the Season will have to offer, but they’ve let loose with a few tidbits here and there.  Couple that with some leaked info, and we have a pretty good idea of what Operators will get to enjoy when Season 1 kicks off.

One of the first things players discovered would be part of Season 1 is the return of 2v2 Gunfights.  As you can probably guess, these intense battles put two teams up two up against one another, and each player only has one life.  Last time we saw the 2v2 Gunfight available in a Call of Duty game, it was presented as a 32-player, 16-team event that went through 8 rounds to discover the top dogs.  Whether Activision plans to change things up for Season 1 remains to be seen.  We also aren’t sure if these Gunfights will take place on existing maps, or will usher in a few new locations.

On the weapons side of things, Season 1 is going to bring back some old favorites, as well as completely new options.  There have only been a couple hints as to what’s coming on the new side of things, but thanks to insider info, we know about a handful of classic guns that are returning.  Longtime Call of Duty fans can prepare for the Mac 11, Striker Shotgun, and Groza.  The slate of new weapons that become available should be nice compliments to these classics in order to keep the gunplay balanced and exciting.

In terms of maps, we know at least one is on the way for Season 1, but it’s likely some others will join as well.  The one map revealed so far is titled Mall, and the teaser for this map indicates that it’ll be for 6v6 matches.  In particular, the teaser showcased a game of VIP Escort taking place, so we know for a fact that the map is at least big enough for 6v6 matches.  Whether it can be expanded upon for other modes is up in the air.

While new maps are certainly exciting, it’s good to know that there’s new Modes in the works as well.  Activision has been extremely quiet on the Modes side of things, but they did confirm that both traditional multiplayer and Zombies will be getting new Modes.  Whether this is a collection of never-before-seen mechanics or the return of popular match setups is anyone’s guess at this point.

As far as officially-revealed content goes, that’s all we know about Season 1 so far.  Obviously there’s going to be a lot more included not only on December 10th, but as the Season continues on as well.  Activision will definitely reveal some surprise elements when Season 1 launches, but some of those may have been spoiled by a number of leaks out there.  While we can’t speak to the validity of these leaks, we’ve certainly seen other leaked Black Ops Cold Wars content end up being the real deal.

Various leakers across the internet have dug up tidbits about other elements Season 1 may include.  In terms of maps, the codenames of Dune and Echeleon were discovered, along with a third called Apocalypse.  Subsequent info points to Apocalypse being a Zombies map, and the other two getting added into the traditional multiplayer shuffle.  A new K-9 Unit Scorestreak has also been discovered, which will send out a puppy pal into the battlefield to dispose of some opposition.  There’s also a host of unconfirmed new weapons in the mix as well, with only codenames to go off of at this point.

Even with the revealed content and leaked details, Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is sure to offer a wealth of options to keep players jumping into the online action.  We won’t have to wait much longer to see what the Season will bring, and hopefully there will be plenty to please longtime fans and newcomers alike.  Best of all, this is just the beginning!  There are many more Seasons to come, all of which will push gameplay in new and exciting directions.  Even without knowing the full scope of what’s in the work, it’s safe to say this is a very exciting time to be a CoD fan!
