Use Your Turtle Beach Headset with the New Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch, launched March 3rd and if you were one of the lucky few to get your hands on the much-anticipated device you’re likely now enjoying one of the system’s launch titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

As its moniker suggests, one of the main features of the Nintendo Switch is its ability to transform from a tabletop console to a portable gaming device on-the-fly. The transition between modes is near instantaneous and a fantastic feat of tech to witness.

Of course, when you’re gaming on-the-go you’ll want to experience the Switch’s audio capabilities, preferably without disturbing anyone else around you. Accordingly, you’ll need a proper gaming headset and luckily Turtle Beach has many models that are compatible right out-of-the-box with the Nintendo Switch.

[Editor’s note: For now, we are only verifying game audio compatibility with the Switch. Nintendo has not yet implemented chat functionality, but once they do we’ll be sure to verify and update this article.]

Analog Headsets

Nintendo Switch Headphone Jack

The Nintendo Switch features a headphone jack located at the top-right corner of its tablet-like screen. The jack accepts a standard 3.5mm plug, so just about any of our analog models will work with the device. Here’s the breakdown:

RECON Series

Any of our RECON 50 series (which include the RECON 50 for PC, RECON 50X for Xbox One, and RECON 50P for PS4) will work flawlessly with the Switch. Simply plug the headset into the Switch’s headphone jack and you’re all set.

If you own the RECON 60P for PS4, you will have to omit the use of its USB amplifier, and instead plug the headset directly into the Nintendo Switch. In this sense, it functions exactly as a RECON 50 headset.

When docked and connected to a TV the Nintendo Switch can be used with the Elite 800 & Elite 800X wirelessly.  This setup is very simple and requires that your TV has a Digital Optical Output.

  1. Connect your Elite 800/800X Transmitter via USB to the Nintendo Switch Dock.
  2. Connect the “Digital Optical Output” from your TV to the “Digital Optical Input” on your transmitter with the included Digital Optical Cable.
