It’s been a very long time since demon hunters have sent demons screaming back to hell. In fact, the last time we got a look at the story of Devil May Cry was back in 2013 with DmC: Devil May Cry. But the wait has gone on long enough, for Devil May Cry 5 is finally here to slash, shoot, and destroy any demon that stands in its path. We’ve poured over the latest entry in the series by Capcom and have come up with some tips to help you get started on uncovering the story in Devil May Cry 5.
Practice Moves and Abilities
Being a good demon hunter and being a great demon hunter comes down to how you use your abilities. There are a lot of different tools Nero, V, and Dante have at their disposal, and using them all together is going to be critical. As soon as you get your hands on a character, play around with their abilities.
Nero, for example, has Red Queen and Blue Rose, as well as his Devil Breaker. By stringing these moves together, he can juggle enemies, zip around the battlefield, and wreak havoc with ease. Similarly, while V doesn’t attack, his pet demons can be just as ferocious as Dante’s overwhelming power. Practice makes perfect, and in Devil May Cry 5, this means being more stylish (more on that latter!)
Buy New Skills and Attacks
Speaking of skills, there are dozens of skills and different attacks to purchase at the shop. With so many moves on offer, and with all of them costing thousands of red orbs, it can feel a bit daunting trying to make the right choice. Thankfully, Nico will actually let you test out a move before buying it. Simply highlight a move you might want and instead of unlocking it, take it for a spin in the void.
The list of skills and attacks that can be purchased also expands over the course of the game. As you discover new weapons, learn new Devil Trigger moves, and encounter new situations, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase new abilities. If you happen to find a new weapon, head back to the shop and check out the new skills you can purchase.
Find Blue Orb Fragments
Not getting hit is obviously going to be the best option in Devil May Cry 5. However, if you do happen to take a walloping, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of vitality, which is where blue orb fragments come in. These blue glowing relics are hidden in nearly every level, and if you manage to find four, they’ll form a blue orb and increase your vitality by one bar.
Take the time to thoroughly explore each level, as these blue orb fragments (and their purple orb fragment sibling) can be quite difficult to find. In the event you want an immediate bump to your health, head to Nico’s shop, where you can buy a handful of whole orbs right away.
Hunt for Secret Missions

Speaking of hidden things, secret missions make their return to Devil May Cry 5. These secret missions are tucked away across 12 different levels, and unlocking them requires a bit of puzzle solving. Each secret mission is unlocked by looking for a red runic marking, but the marking can only be viewed from a specific location. If you find some red markings, start looking for a spot where you can stand to form the giant rune.
When you do manage to get the secret mission unlocked, they can be replayed from the main menu at any time. Completing a secret mission will reward a blue orb fragment, so it’s a great idea to dive in and clear as many as possible.
Become More Stylish
It wouldn’t be a Devil May Cry game if it didn’t push you to be as stylish as possible. Players will be rewarded with Stylish Points during combat, which raises up a Style Ranking. This ranking goes from D to A, and then from S, SS, and finally SSS. If you want to hit that coveted SSS Style Rank, you’re going to want to be as fancy as possible.
To actually increase your Style Rank, the most important tip is to not get hit. Getting hit will lower the rank by a whole level or more, really setting back any progress. Try to stay off the ground and keep dodging those attacks! Remember to get really CURRRAAAAZYYY!
Devil May Cry 5 is shaping up to be the best in the series. Whether you’re a newcomer or a long time demon hunter, keep these tips close as you head out to make some devils cry!
