There are a lot of weapons to collect in Destiny 2 and one of the returning legends from the original is the laser-spitting Exotic Fusion Rifle, Sleeper Simulant. Much like in the original, you won’t be getting the Sleeper Simulant from a measly engram, you’ll need to work for this boss-melting power weapon!
How to Unlock Sleeper Simulant
The Exotic quest for unlocking Sleeper Simulant in Destiny 2 requires a bit of grinding, as any good quest should. There aren’t a lot of steps, and they’re not incredibly difficult, but some of the later entries require players to complete a lot of activities during Mars Patrols.
- Finish the Warmind main story
- Go to Mars and finish the world quest and receive the IKELOS HC V1.0.1
- Speak with Ana Bray to receive the next step in the quest
- Complete Violent Intel quest step
- Complete Rasputin’s Calling quest step
- Complete Warmind’s Glory quest step
- Complete Nodes and Protocols quest step
- Complete Perfect Form quest step
To begin the journey, simply play through the Warmind storyline and then head to Mars to start the world quest. This quest can be found by opening the Director and looking for the blue banner on the Mars map. Track this banner, find it in the world, and then activate it to begin the next step. Completing the world quest unlocks the IKELOS Hand Cannon, a weapon that is required to unlock the Sleeper Simulant. With this completed, head to Ana Bray to receive the Violent Intel quest item.
Violent Intel
The Violent Intel quest step requires you to kill Hive and Cabal units on Mars using the IKELOS hand cannon that Rasputin made for you. The only caveat is that they must be killed with precision shots, so aim for the head! Either play through some adventures, do a Lost Sector, or maybe even a public event or two to get this one sorted.
Rasputin’s Calling
The next step on the path to unlocking Sleeper Simulant in Destiny 2 requires killing powerful enemies while the IKELOS hand cannon is equipped. You don’t have to use this weapon to kill them, just make sure it’s in the special weapon slot. The best place to kill powerful enemies (the ones with yellow health bars) is the very start of the Leviathan raid. The bridge leading into the ship is full of powerful enemies to shoot, and you can boot the raid up as a solo player and knock this step out in a few minutes.
Warmind’s Glory
The Warmind’s Glory step of this Exotic quest requires Heroic Strike completions with the IKELOS weapon equipped. This is a simple task to understand, but difficult to execute. Heroic Strikes are set to 350 Power, making them exceptionally challenging, and that’s before you take into account the modifiers! Get together with a few friends, and remember to keep the communication going so as to avoid any wipes. A headset like the Stealth 700 gives you the freedom of wireless with the thundering clarity of the Superhuman Hearing™ sound setting to help you better hear your teammates.
Nodes and Protocols
This next step in the Exotic quest requires you to locate Sleeper Nodes and activate them. This process involves collecting Resonate Stems by completing activities, crafting them into an Override Frequency, reading the item for the clue, and figuring out where that clue is trying to lead you. By following the clue, you’ll come across a glowing Sleeper Node that can be activated. Simple!

Officially licensed for Xbox One™, the Stealth 700 is the first premium wireless headset to connect directly to the console, with features like Windows Sonic Surround Sound Active Noise-Cancellation, Bluetooth™, and much more.
Shop NowThe other part of this quest requires completing levels in the Escalation Protocol, Destiny 2’s toughest activity since the Prestige raid. It’s a good idea to attempt the Escalation Protocol with more friends, as it will make it easier to get through the levels. Once this is complete, you’re one more step away from claiming the Sleeper Simulant.
Perfect Form
The final step in the Exotic quest is called Perfect Form and requires you to complete a special mission called Will of the Thousands. This mission is a 360 Power version of the final mission in the Destiny 2 Warmind expansion, so bring a friend (or two) along to help you through the fight.
Once all these steps are completed, you’ll have earned the highly coveted Sleeper Simulant. It works a little bit differently to its Destiny 1 counterpart, but it’s still a powerful weapon that will melt bosses away in a blink of an eye!
