The GTA Online Summer Update is the next major release planned for Rockstar Games’ ridiculously popular urban open-world sandbox. The last major update for GTA Online arrived in December 2021 with ‘The Contract’, and despite the relaunch of the game on next-gen consoles, there’s likely a subset of players who are already keen to see what Rockstar Games has planned next for the next expansion.

Latest GTA Online Summer Update News

July 25, 2022 - GTA Online: The Criminal Enterprises Starts Tomorrow

The GTA Online Summer Update is releasing tomorrow on July 26, 2022.

Updates will typically arrive in the early morning, and last year when Rockstar dropped the ‘GTA Online: The Contract’ dlc, it arrived at around 10am.

We would imagine it will release at the same time for this new Summer update, which means we can expect it to go live on PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles at the following times:

  • UK – 9-10am GMT
  • Europe – 10-11am CET
  • West Coast US – 1-2am PT
  • East Coast US – 4-5am ET
July 21, 2022 - GTA Online: The Criminal Enterprises Revealed!

The GTA Online Summer Update has been announced and it’s called ‘The Criminal Enterprises‘.

This latest free update to the game will bring new missions and upgrades to Los Santos, including significant expansions to business prospects for Criminal Careers, new elaborate Contact Missions with players operating as a sworn-in agent for the IAA, and much more.

In addition to this, The Criminal Enterprises update will also deliver some highly requested quality of life improvements to the game – such as the ability to launch Sell Missions in private sessions and more convenient access to snacks and armor – along with new ways to earn more money, including increased payouts for Races, Adversary Modes, Heists, and more to give players greater choice in how they climb their way up the criminal ranks.

Follow the link above for a full breakdown of what’s coming to the game with The Criminal Enterprises update, when it launches on July 26.

July 18, 2022 - Summer Update Details Coming This Week

Could we finally get some more specific details of the GTA Online Summer update this week? We think so, so make sure you keep your eyes on Rockstar Games Twitter account this week, potentially following the next GTA Online Weekly Update.

We’ll be sure to update this page as soon as we get more intel.

July 14, 2022 - New Summer Update Details Leaked

Following the news of a small delay to the Summer Update (moved to July 26) some fans have managed to find some new details following the release of the latest Weekly Update.

This info comes via @alloc8or on the GTA Online Forums. Here’s what we can expect:

  • 26 new vehicle slots (CLARIFICATION)
  • 2 new rifles; one is a “Tactictal Rifle”, unsure about the other one (codenamed “PRCSRIFLE”)
  • As certain people have been hinting at: yes, there will be new skydiving activities which are also connected to a new “skydive” collectible
  • Some other certain people have also been hinting at an activity outside of San Andreas – I’ll let the reader figure this one out
  • Small fun fact: R* was particularly lazy this time choosing a codename for this DLC, they literally called it “DLC 1 2022”
July 14, 2022 - Summer Update Delayed

The current GTA Online Weekly Update was due to end on July 18, which is when we believed the Summer Update would launch, potentially with new GTA+ Rewards too.

The Event week has just been extended to July 26 which would suggest there’s a small delay to the rollout of the Summer Update.

July 11, 2022 - New Weapon wheel changes

We quite like the look of this idea.

July 7, 2022 - Summer Update Confirmed

Rockstar Games has today announced ‘What’s to Come this Summer and Beyond’ in a new blog post. We’ve broken down the main details into sections:

Summer Update

“In just a few short weeks, a new update is coming to GTA Online on all platforms that will expand upon the Criminal Careers of Executive, Biker, Gunrunner, and Nightclub Owner — alongside a set of Contact Missions that presents the opportunity to be sworn in as a special IAA field operative to investigate a budding criminal conspiracy.”

GTA Online IAA Field Operative

Gameplay Changes

“This update will also feature some changes that have been long-requested by the community — such as reducing the effectiveness of homing missiles and countermeasures on the Oppressor Mk II, offering a more convenient way to access snacks and armor, and the ability to launch Sell Missions in Invite Only sessions. These are just a few of the experience improvements that will be coming this summer, to GTA Online as we continue to incorporate more player feedback and other learnings moving forward.”

Increased Payouts

“We’ll also be increasing some of the GTA$ payouts throughout the game to reward players for their time — regardless of what they choose to play. With such a wide range of things to do in GTA Online we believe that increasing these payouts will allow people greater freedom to do what they like and get what they want faster.

Bodyguards, Associates, and MC Members will see payouts increased to encourage and reward cooperative play — along with increased GTA$ payouts across a variety of activities, including greater payouts across Races, Adversary Modes, and select Heist Finales.”

GTA Online Summer Updates

July 7, 2022 - Extended Event Week Announced

Rockstar Games has released the latest GTA Online Weekly Update and it appears to confirm what many already knew.

The new event week will run from July 7 until July 18, which more or less confirms that the Summer update will drop later this month. We might even get an announcement or teaser later today.

July 6, 2022 - Spare a thought for Red Dead Online players

All this excitement for GTA Online players, but spare a thought for those who play Red Dead Online who look like they might not get any sort of update this Summer.

Rockstar has this week announced the new monthly Red Dead Online updates for July and, they last all month. So it looks like there might not be any Red Dead Online Summer Update this year.

July 5, 2022 - GTA Online 'update is nearing release'

We already seem pretty sure that the new GTA Online Summer Update is coming on July 19, but insider Tez2 has provided yet more evidence that the next DLC is on the way.

“Not like we need more hints thanks to GTA+ event period, but the qalive branch is now receiving updates more often suggesting #GTAOnline Summer update is nearing release. More semi-confirmation towards the update releasing on July 19th.”

July 4, 2022 - Michael not coming in Summer?

As per Rockstar insider Tez2, Michael might not join the game until a potential December update.

Tez was replying to a fellow GTA fan on the GTA Forums who asked: “So…at this point is more realistic talk about a Tuners part 2/Contract part 2/LSSS 2.0 for summer than ‘Michael DLC’?”

To which Tez succinctly replied: “Michael would probably be December update material and not this Summer update.”

July 1, 2022 - GTA Summer Update Release Confirmed?

The GTA+ Rewards for July were announced following the latest Weekly Reset and strangely they are set to expire – quite early we might add – on July 18. There doesn’t seem to be much justification, but we suspect that it could be because that’s when the GTA Online Summer update is set to launch.

Hopefully, we’ll find out more soon, but otherwise, mark your calendars for July 18.

June 29, 2022 - Where's Michael?

Uh-oh.

“I’m starting to think Michael may not be featured until the December update.”
– Tez2 on GTAForums

June 24, 2022 - Tez2 Teases A Long Wait

Reliable Rockstar informer Tez2 has suggested players may have to wait a while for the new update, with potentially more updates in the vein of the recent Vespucci Job Remix. Writing on the GTA Forums, Tez told other users:

“I still believe we would receive an article similar to the one back in May 2021 since I’m hearing from reliable sources that Rockstar isn’t done yet with just the Vespucci Job Remix. So I would expect more filler content before the Summer update. Vespucci Job Remix had movie references. So we could see more teases or hints that way? Instead of the regular prop tease. Idk.”

June 15, 2022 - More Leaks Tomorrow?

The next GTA Online Weekly Update is coming tomorrow (June 16) and we suspect we could see a few more files/tweaks that come from the new event week. We didn’t get anything last week, but surely we’re getting near the point when Rockstar needs to start properly teasing this next big update. Stay tuned for updates/leaks!

June 2, 2022 - Movie Set NPC Leaks

Another update from Tez2 and its related to new NPC players have found, which appears in-game from the hours of 7 to 11am. It’s hard to look past the fact that this seems to be teasing some upcoming content for the game, likely arriving as part of the game’s next update, which we imagine is for the Summer Update to the game.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that during The Contract missions we learn that Michael – one of the three main characters from GTA 5 story Mode – is working for Solomon Richards at the Richards Majestic movie studios. Could this next update look to bring back another key character from the main story mode to GTA Online.

We’d love to see it, but for now, we’ll have to wait for the next update to find out more.

June 2, 2022 - Movie Set Leaks

Some dataminers have now found a few references to movie related references. As pointed out by Tez2, the game appears to have added a new scenario spawn point which could be pointing towards a new heist, or potentially some new mission content like what we saw with The Contract DLC.

There’s also a new bit of code in relation to ‘movie set’ but it’s still not entirely clear what this could be in reference to.

June 1, 2022 - Summer Update Delayed?

According to Rockstar insider Tez2, we might be waiting until the end of July for the next update. Writing on the GTAForums Tez told fellow community members:

“A fully-fledged Summer update is in development. Expect it to arrive at the usual release window, a late July release. Beforehand, we would likely have an event that goes live for two weeks that would give us an estimate of when to expect the actual release date.”

April 1, 2022 - Liberty City Expansion Rumors

One insider has hinted at a possible map expansion for GTA Online which will add Liberty City to the game, and it could be coming this Summer. Click the link above for all the details.

When will the GTA Online Summer Update release?

UPDATE 2 - The event week has been extended to July 26 which would suggest a small delay to the Summer Update release time.

UPDATE 1 - The new GTA Plus rewards have been announced and they end on July 17, 2022. This is quite a short month. Additionally, we normally see GTA+ reset on a Thursday following the GTA Online Weekly Reset. With the GTA+ Rewards ending on a Sunday, we suspect the New GTA Online Summer Update could launch on July 18.

Since 2019 Rockstar has always delivered at least two significant expansions to the game each year. You can take a look at when the game has released its expansions previously, on the chart below. Given that Rockstar has delivered a Summer expansion in July/August every year for the past 4 years, we suspect that the GTA Online 2022 summer update will release on July 23, 2022. Of course, this is only a prediction, so take it with a grain of salt until we get anymore official info.

What is coming out in the new GTA update summer update?

For the time being it’s difficult to say with too much certainty what content could be included in the next GTA Online summer update. For now, there have been zero leaks to indicate what sort of content we could see. That being said, we can make some fairly decent guesses. For one thing, three of the four past summer updates have been released with new social spaces or alternatively new businesses for players to purchase. Obviously, a slew of new vehicles is released with each update alongside plenty of new missions too.

The only year where you might argue that the summer update felt slightly underwhelming was in 2020 with the GTA Online: Los Santos Summer Special update. Content largely focused on a series of new missions, new Business Battles, new Adversary Modes, 9 new Open Wheel Races, and the Open Wheel Race Creator. That being said, Rockstar did follow it up with the Cayo Perico Heist update a few months later which added a massive island’s worth of content, so we think they can be forgiven.
