Modern Warfare 2 Release Date Confirmed For October 28 In New Trailer

Activision has confirmed that the release date for Call of Duty Modern Warfare is October 28, 2022 in a brand new trailer released earlier today.

We’ve known for some time that Modern Warfare 2 would be the next Call of Duty title following confirmation by Activision and Infinity Ward earlier this year, but the latest trailer also gives us a bit of a better look at the squad of Task Force 141 through some updated artwork.

Task Force 141 makes its massive impact and presence known across the Port of Long Beach, thanks to a colossal reveal on an unprecedented scale,” Activision wrote in a new blog post earlier today.

“Initial asset intel brings revelations about key members of Task Force 141, including Team leader Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Sergeant “Soap” MacTavish, lone-wolf Simon “Ghost” Riley, and Colonel Alejandro Vargas of the Mexican Special Forces.

“Stay tuned for more intel; this official artwork begins the ultimate reveal of the Call of Duty franchise’s future. And soon you’ll have a chance to own a piece of this dock-spanning art and be a part of our history. But for now, and most importantly: Stay frosty.”

Notable Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope has recently suggested on Twitter that according to their sources, a Modern Warfare 2 reveal trailer could release on June 2, which is only two weeks away.

However, some graffiti midway through the trailer – which reads “J 8 22” – appears to hint at some sort of reveal on June 8, so perhaps this is when we can expect the full cinematic reveal for the game?

Our last trailer for the game appeared to include a series of coordinates – 1.3521° N. 103.8198° E. As pointed out by renowned leaker Tom Henderson, these coordinates appear to point towards a location in Singapore. More specifically, the location seems to be the resort and luxury hotel at Marina Bay Sands.

Henderson went on to suggest that he’s seen an ‘early’ image from the game and noted it included a soldier repelling down the side of a glass building. So perhaps something like what we’ve seen previously in Call of Duty Ghosts (see image/Tweet below).

Singapore aside, VGC reports has reported for some time that the Modern Warfare 2 campaign will centre around the drug war against Columbian cartels, which we imagine will be another location we’ll visit.

According to the site, sources have suggested to them that the single-player story will be “a grittier take on Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign”. Likewise, VGC suggests the game will feature “more close-quarters combat, tricky decision making, and the classic Call of Duty set-piece moments”.
