The Best Indie Games Of PAX East 2020

PAX East 2020 allowed a treasure trove of developers of all of sizes to show off the fantastic and latest gaming experiences they have been working on. Now, it is easy to have the majority of attention drawn to huge triple-A titles at significant shows like PAX East. However, this year did not disappoint when it came to having a wide range of Indie games that delivered plenty of their own excitement and fun to those who were able to try them out. With this in mind, we decided to round up five of the top Indie titles that were at PAX East 2020 and give you a look at what they are and why you should check them out yourself.

She Dreams Elsewhere

This particular game is a Japanese Role-Playing Game from Studio Zevere and boasts one of the more unique concepts for a game we have seen in some time. Players take on the role of Thalia Sullivan, who is described as a “high strung, anxiety-ridden, comatose woman.” Sullivan must embark on a dangerous adventure to face off against and defeat the nightmares that are preventing her from waking up from the coma that she is in. Thalia remembers who she is but not how she got into this coma and this nightmare-fueled world where she is being chased by a bloodthirsty doppelganger.

She Dreams Elsewhere presents players with a focus on emotions, mental illness, and self-identity throughout its story. This impressive Indie title features a turned-based combat system, deep character playstyle customization, and vast cast of characters who all possess their own unique and intimate narratives that you can explore in the shoes of Thalia Sullivan.

Players can currently download the demo for She Dreams Elsewhere on Steam with a 2020 release date having been set for the game.

Chivalry 2

There is an overwhelming amount of multiplayer titles currently available for players to experience. However, Chivarly II can stand out amongst its peers with its unique setting, considering it allows players to dive right into the middle of battles inspired by all of those epic medieval movie battles. Chivalry II is a first-person slasher that will enable players to become fully immersed in the close hand to hand combat that will no doubt get your adrenaline pumping as you charge into battle. Those who enter the battlefields of this Indie game will get to experience massive 64-player battlefields where you can engage in a variety of era-based objectives like laying siege to your enemy’s castle.

Thousands of voice-lines and an in-depth character customization feature will allow you to become the medieval warrior you were always destined to be for better or for worse. This character customization even dives into how you fight. An expansive combat system gives you the ability to perfect your favorite kind of playstyle that will have every single blow you land sound like you are really striking into the flesh of your opponent with your heavy sword.

Interested players will be able to experience the intense combat of this PAX East 2020 Indie title themselves when the Chivalry II Alpha begins in March 2020.

Maneater

Sharks are often the enemies that players may have to face off against in games. However, the Indie game of Maneater is turning this notion upside down by putting players in the role of the shark. The shark that players control in Maneater was cut from its mother’s body and left to die in the Gulf Coast. You were able to survive and now are hungry to embrace your predatory instinct by killing anything and anyone in your way. In what can be best explained as the shark version of Grand Theft Auto, Maneater allows players to have completely free choice when it comes to what they dine on. Feast on any humans you come across and have them terrified to go into the water.

A massive open-world with a variety of different environments and a deep customization system that allows you to evolve your shark into a formidable beast gives players plenty to enjoy in this adrenaline-fueled Indie game. However, a release date for Maneater has not yet been announced, so players will have to wait for a bit before they can become the next famous aquatic terror.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Sometimes pure chaos can make for the best gaming experiences with friends, and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is one Indie title shown off at PAX East 2020 accomplishes this to the highest degree. This particular game throws together hordes of fellow competitors together online to face off against ridiculous challenges and insane obstacles to decide which individual will be the ultimate victory when the dust settles on this vibrant game. Players can go the lone wolf route in the Indie game’s free-for-all mode or team up with others in the wacky cooperative challenges that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout offers those who jump into its crazy universe.

Entertaining customization options for players and a physics bending gameplay experience combine to provide players with an endless array of ways to enjoy themselves in this Indie game that is currently set to release sometime in 2020. It is safe to say that you should expect the unexpected when you begin your adventures in Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.

Moving Out

Indie titles often very creative when it comes to the topics they choose for their video game worlds. There is no better example of this out of the box thing than the title of Moving Out. This physics-based simulator puts players in the role of a newly certified Furniture Arrangement and Relocation Technician. Your job is to take on a variety of moving jobs in the town known as Paxmore and do your best work to grow your business to its highest potential. Up to four players can come together and experience all of the unique action that Moving Out offers with its extreme physics gameplay system that lets you throw and smash your way to completing jobs as fast as possible.

Creativity is at the center of this Indie game, as you will have to put on your thinking cap to navigate and complete the different kinds of moving jobs that the Indie game will throw at your and your friends. Fortunately, you will be able to utilize a diverse cast of adorable characters that will help keep the fun at the highest levels possible every second you are playing.

Players will be able to realize their dream of being the most excellent movers of all time when Moving Out officially releases on April 28th, 2020.

There is no doubt that these Indie games put on wonderful shows at PAX East 2020 and will continue to provide countless hours of entertainment to all of the players that dive into their unique and exciting worlds going forward. We know one thing for sure. You will not be disappointed if you add these Indie titles as the next entries on your gaming list.
