The Beginner’s Guide To Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an absolutely massive game in terms of scope and scale.  Taking your first dive into Night City will no doubt be overwhelming, and it’ll likely lead to choice paralysis.  How do you know what to do and where to go?  Don’t let the fear of the unknown worry you, as it’s pretty much impossible to steer yourself in the wrong direction.  Open yourself up to the exploration and follow these beginner tips to ensure your cyberpunk adventure is both an engaging and rewarding one.

Grab Everything

Every single thing you find in Cyberpunk 2077 can serve a purpose.  Sure, you want to snag all the latest weaponry and sophisticated nanotech, but you can’t get to those moments without starting small.  As they say, one man’s trash is another’s treasure.  Even items like cigarette packs and other scraps can be quite helpful in Cyberpunk 2077.  Pick up everything you happen upon, break the items down for useful parts to upgrade other weapons, and sell the rest of it to make some quick Eddies.  Just remember to manage that inventory, as you don’t want to over-encumber yourself with 150 pieces of trash!

Level Up

As most probably expected, Cyberpunk 2077 includes some rather deep options when it comes to leveling up.  To be completely honest, the different aspects you can enhance and grow might be overwhelming at the start.  Do yourself a favor and learn the ins and outs of leveling up early in the game.  You’ll be able to build upon your overall character level, Street Cred, and Skills.  As long as you’re playing normally and taking missions, you’ll gain the necessary points to upgrade these components.  Just don’t forget to do so!  You might find yourself having trouble with a particular fight, only to realize that you haven’t leveled up an aspect of your character for days now.  Staying on top of your levels will give you new abilities, grant access to different areas, enhance your conversation options, and much more.

Good Call

While weapons and cybernetic enhancements will no doubt help you get deeper into Night City, one of the most important tools in your arsenal is your cell phone.  If you want to meet a wider cast of characters and gain access to unique missions, your cell phone is the way to go.  Taking calls and reading messages will fill in the backstory for multiple characters, present new situations for you to explore, and reveal side-quests you might not otherwise see.  Calls can pop up at some inopportune times during missions, but you can always follow-up by reading texts or making a call back after things die down.

Junk in the Trunk

Storage space is at a premium in Cyberpunk 2077, especially early on in the game.  You’re going to come across a crazy amount of goodies you want to take with you, but your inventory will fill up quite quickly.  Instead of taking a trip back to your safehouse to store things, just call up your ride.  You can head to the trunk of your vehicle and open it for some mobile storage.  This can be extremely helpful after you’ve taken on some side missions and you have a bounty of items you want to offload for sifting through later.

Quick Scan, My Man!

Cyberpunk 2077 is a dark and grimy game, and it can be hard to see what’s going on in the environment sometimes.  If you’re someone obsessed with collecting every little item, seeing them in this environment can become a nightmare.  Thankfully there’s a Quick Scan option at your disposal.  Using this will light up the environment quickly, and tag every collectible item within your view.  This way you can walk into a new room, instantly give it a once over with Quick Scan, and head right to the areas of interest for collection.

Save Often

As you might have heard, Cyberpunk 2077 is in a bit of a rough state right now.  You’re going to encounter a fair amount of bugs and glitches on your journey, especially if you’re playing on last-gen base hardware.  Instead of losing hours of progress due to a game crash, make sure you save often.  It can become a bit frustrating to constantly open up menus to lock in a save, but it’s a lot better than working your way through a long mission, only to have it all come crumbling down due to a game hiccup.  There will be a point when you can play without a worry in Cyberpunk 2077, but we’re not there yet.
