Most anticipated games coming in 2020

Cyberpunk 2077 – April 16

CD Projekt RED has already proven that they know how to weave a stunning RPG tail when they adapted The Witcher novels into a breathtaking game series. Though Geralt’s journey is over for now, the studio is taking aim at an even more immersive experience with players transforming into the V of their choosing.

V is a cyber-enhanced mercenary that players will be able to craft from scratch with an elaborate character customization menu and tabletop specs. They’re an outlaw looking to make a name for themselves in the underbelly of Night City with aims to rise to the top and conquer a world obsessed with glamor and power. Oh, and there’s also Keanu Reeves … so, bonus.

The Last of Us Part II – May 29

The Last of Us crushed our hearts and killed our soul and the team over at Naughty Dog are ready to do it yet again, resuming Ellie’s journey as she evolves into an adult in a world where survival is key and happiness is fleeting.

From the very first teaser of Joel’s return and a narrative centered around love and loss, the next entry into the Last of Us franchise with the upcoming sequel looks to take an already dark tale and make it even darker. Considering we were a sobbing mess when the end credits rolled for the first one, we’ve already got our sad box of tissues at the ready to see where the road leads next for our dear Ellie.

DOOM Eternal – March 20

Get ready to go back into Hell, friends, because the upcoming DOOM adventure takes what we’ve loved about the franchise until now and makes it even meatier, gorier, and all the more nightmarish. With more movement freedom than ever before and a Nintendo Switch release to boot, Doom Eternal is shaping up to be a worthy addition to a highly beloved gaming staple.

Halo Infinite – Holiday 2020

With Master Chief back alongside a total revamp after a reflective hiatus for the team over at 343 Industries, the upcoming entry in the Halo franchise is both exciting and terrifying for some. This is a series that has undergone a lot of changes through the years, including change of ownership, and not all of those evolutions have been seen as positive.

The studio has promised that all of that fan feedback was incredibly valuable and a cornerstone throughout their development process. With the hint that Cortana may be returning as well thanks to a hidden message in Halo: Infinite’s trailer during E3 this year, the next game up for Master Chief could be a total game-changer.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 – TBD

Forget DLC, it’s time for a full-fledged sequel to the thrilling Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game that made a huge and lasting impact on Nintendo Switch players. With Zelda soaking up the spotlight and a new, much darker, adventure ahead for our favorite adventurer Link, the upcoming Breath of the Wild 2 narrative is going to be anything but simple.

From the brief look that we had of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild during E3 this year, we saw both Zelda and Link traversing a dangerously dark dungeon. The teaser trailer was just that – a tease – though it was enough to get fans excited. Unfortunately, we just don’t have a release window yet.

Final Fantasy VII Remake – March 3

Cloud, Aerith, and the boys are back … including our favorite villain Sephiroth … for the biggest remake venture of the decade. The Final Fantasy VII remake has been a long time coming with years of teasers and uncertainty. From recent trailers, however, it looks like that tumultuous road will be well worth it and we’re excited to see all of the creative ways Square Enix take one of the most loved games in the Final Fantasy series and make it even better with some modernization and new story elements.

Another important thing about the upcoming remake is that it will launch in two parts, both expanding upon the game in major ways, which has the potential to make it the ultimate homage to a phenomenal story.

Dying Light 2 – Spring 2020

Dying Light 2 aims to take what made the first one enjoyable to new heights with devastating choices to be made, an expansive open-world to explore that will drastically alter by those decisions, and characters to meet that will break our hearts. The next step for the Dying Light franchise makes it so much more than a zombie game, this is an experience that will change the way players approach certain philosophical conundrums while challenging them to create a better world on the fly.

Players will be taking on the role of Aiden Caldwell, an infected survival that is as agile as he is smart. Even better is he’s not afraid to get scrappy in combat, which is good because there will be a lot of combat.

Other games we’re excited for

There are so many exciting adventures ahead that’s it’s hard to pick and choose which ones. Other honorable mentions include the recently revealed Half-Life: Alyx for VR, Metroid Prime 4, Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Minecraft Dungeons, Ori and the Will of Wisps, Watch Dogs: Legion, and so many more.

So tell us, what are you most excited for when it comes to 2020 releases? Sound off with your picks in the comment section below!
