Get ready for an endless stream of game reveals!

Every Upcoming Video Game Showcase This Summer

In-person gaming events have been cancelled across the board as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, with 2020 being a console release year, these cancellations have put companies like Microsoft and Sony in a tricky predicament with both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 competing for your money during this upcoming holiday season.

Digital direct showcases aren’t uncommon in June and July with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all doing their own events in order to spotlight new and upcoming games. The big three aside, there will no doubt be more of these digital showcases this year as more and more companies are forced to pivot away from live events whether they want to or not. For example, Ubisoft recently announced their own digital showcase, Ubisoft Forward. Meanwhile, the PC Gaming Show will join the roster of Summer Game Fest streams in June.

Needless to say it’s a wild and crazy time in the world of gaming right now. So to make things just a little bit easier, we’ve put together a nifty feature listing all of the upcoming video game showcases that you don’t want to miss!

PS5 Reveal – State of Play

  • Summer TBD

Rumors are going around that we’ll be getting an official PS5 reveal in the next few months as part of a new State of Play livestream. True, we got a State of Play not that long ago, but that one was solely focused on Sony’s upcoming PS4 exclusive, Ghosts of Tsushima.

In regards to the PS5, we’ve seen what the logo and controller will look like, but now we want to see the actual system itself – and, you know – what games we can play on it. What better time for Sony to show us the goods than June, July, or August alongside other big gaming showcases?

Game-wise, we know that several new titles for next-gen consoles will be announced during digital direct events like Ubisoft Forward and EA Play Live, but most of will be multi-platform which won’t do much when it comes to selling the PS5 itself.

We want to see the PS5 in all its glory, alongside exclusive games you can only play on PS5. We’re also curious about what the PS5 launch titles will be. A new God of War would be glorious… or, could you imagine, Bloodborne 2?! Whatever they are, we hope to find out soon! Stay tuned for more info as we wait for Sony to give us the details on when their next State of Play is set to take place and what we can expect from it.

Summer Game Fest – PC Gaming Show

  • June 6 at 12 p.m. (PT), 3 p.m. (ET)

Due to so many event cancellations taking place as a result of COVID-19, larger set pieces like the Summer Game Fest have sprung up. With the Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards, will step in and guide viewers through a series of streams.

Of these streams, one noteworthy entry is the PC Gaming Show. Around E3 every year, the PC Gaming Show takes place outside at The Mayan Theater in Los Angeles. Having to make the event strictly digital, the PC Gaming Show has the opportunity to get even more eyeballs on their stream thanks to their inclusion in the Summer Game Fest, and we think that’s pretty damn cool.

The PC Gaming Show will air on June 6 at 12 p.m. (PT) and 3 p.m. (ET) on Twitch. Other streams you can enjoy as part of the Summer Game Fest include Guerrilla Collective Live on June 6 at 10 a.m. (PT and the Future Games Show on June 6 at 2:30 p.m. (PT). You can view the full list of events, when the streams go live, and where you can watch over on the Summer Game Fest website

EA Play Live

  • June 11 at 4 p.m. (PT), 7 p.m. (ET)

EA has to skip their in-person EA Play event this year but will continue the festivities through their digital direct, EA Play Live. As you’d expect, EA will no doubt show off the latest entries from their various sport franchises like Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21.

Other plausible announcements include Star Wars: Rise to Power and a new Need For Speed game. We may also see a few surprise game reveals for Xbox Series X and PS5. For example, whatever happened to Dragon Age 4? It was teased at The Game Awards in 2018, it’s being published by EA, and there’s high demand for its release. It makes sense.

Dragon Age 4 looks like the perfect candidate for a next-gen game and would certainly be a great way to end the EA Play Live showcase with a bang. Even better is if they announce the game’s getting a Holiday 2020 release. It’s pure speculation, but we’re keeping our fingers tightly crossed for something of this magnitude, and can’t wait for June 11 and the EA Play Live event which airs at 4 p.m. (PT) and 7 p.m. (ET).

Inside Xbox

  • July TBD

The last Inside Xbox in May dealt strictly in third-party titles, while the Inside Xbox event set to take place in July will be all about first-party games for the Xbox Series X.

As of right now, an exact air date has yet to be announced, though we have a feeling it’ll be close to Ubisoft Forward as it sounds like we may see some actual gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. At least we hope so.

Other things we’re hoping to see include the Xbox Series X launch title, Halo Infinite. We may see a little more of Wasteland 3 and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and we’re actually really excited about the idea as both games look absolutely amazing.

No matter what’s shown, we have no doubt that this Inside Xbox will blow gamers away as it works to hype up the Xbox Series X ahead of the console’s holiday release.

Ubisoft Forward

  • July 12 at 12 p.m. (PT), 3 p.m. (ET)

Ubisoft is doing their first digital direct event this year which they’ve named Ubisoft Forward. The company is describing Ubisoft Forward as an “E3-style showcase with plenty of exclusive game news, exciting reveals, and much more.”

We already know we’re going to be seeing more of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla including – we hope – actual gameplay footage. It’s been a while since we’ve heard more about Skull & Bones, Gods & Monsters, and Watch Dogs Legion, leading us to believe at least one of these may be included.

Ubisoft has also previously stated earlier in the year that they plan to ship three AAA games for next-gen consoles by the end of the year. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is one, but what about the other two? That’s what we’ll see during Ubisoft Forward, and we’re genuinely excited to tune in on July 12 at 12 p.m. (PT).

Gamescom – Opening Night Live

  • August 27 TBD

Gamescom lives on this year as an all-digital event hosted by Geoff Keighley who sure sounds like he’ll be busy for the next few months. Less is known about what exactly will be shown during the Opening Night Live event for gamescom as it’s still quite early at this point.

Previous iterations of Opening Night Live included exciting announcements and world premieres along with additional info on upcoming games. We have no reason to believe this year’s Opening Night Live will be any different outside of the fact that it won’t be held in the gamescom event arena.

An exact time hasn’t been announced. All we know is that we’re curious to see where they go with Opening Night Live this year and will be tuning in on August 27.

After reviewing the calendar of upcoming video game showcases, which one are you most excited for? Are you looking forward to an official PS5 reveal, or do you want to see more first-party Xbox Series X games like Halo Infinite?
