Disco Elysium: How to Fast Travel

Disco Elysium is a pretty big game and like many titles in 2022 it offers a way to fast travel in the game, although it’s not particularly well explained. In fact, some players have noted that they’ve finished the game without realising that it is possible.

To be fair, this is also a relatively new feature, introduced with several other quality of life improvements with the Disco Elysium Final Cut released a few years after the title first launched.

If you’re getting sick of running from one region to the next, then read on for a full guide that explains how to fast travel in Disco Elysium.

How To Fast Travel In Disco Elysium

Is there quick travel in Disco Elysium? Yes, actually, even if it isn’t overly apparent to players playing the game; and even when you do unlock it, the devs haven’t made it all that easy to use the system either.

First off, before you can use the Fast Travel feature you need to buy the map from the bookstore (more on that further down). Assuming you have the map, you can only fast travel from three specific points or areas within the game.

You’ll need to use your map to find these three areas within the city of Revachol. The three fast travel points are:

  • Church
  • Fisherman Shacks
  • Martinaise Waterfront

Once you have the map, go to any of these three locations and stand exactly where the text is on the map. In this case it would be next to Kim’s car at the Waterfront, in front of the Fisherman’s Shacks and directly outside the church.

Assuming you are standing in these very specific areas, you should be able to fast travel. Open your map and it should now say ‘you are here‘ depending on your location. The Map will also now show an option that was previously missing above the remaining two locations which reads “Travel Here“. You can see what it should look like on the image below.

Now just select the location you want to travel to and that’s it.

How To Get The Map In Disco Elysium

As outlined above, you can’t use fast travel in Disco Elysium without first getting hold of the map. As such, this particular item is invaluable to players in the game, especially if they want to save time darting from one side of the city to the next.

Thankfully, getting the map is really easy, just follow the steps below:

  • You start the game in the Whirling-in-Rags Hostel, grab the loose coins on the balcony and then head out of the hostel.
  • After speaking with Kim Kitsuragi, head left towards the boarded up building. A small girl called Annette should be standing outside.
  • Inside the bookshop, head upstairs and interact with the maps on the wall in between the bookshelves.
  • Ask the shopkeeper if she will offer to sell the map to you.
  • At this point you could try to use the Interfacing skill check to steal it instead. Otherwise, just buy it for 0.90 cents.
  • For those wondering, the map is so cheap because according to Plaisance, it’s out-of-date. But that doesn’t matter, as it will still allow you to use fast travel.

Fast Travel Stopped Working In Disco Elysium?

Some players have noted that Fast Travel can stop working, although it’s still not clear if this is a bug, or an intentional consequence by the devs to ensure players don’t miss any important story beats.

Most players report that Fast Travel could stop working around the 3rd day. One player on Steam did a bit of an investigation and found it usually works on days 4 & 5 but stops during specific events, so it could be that the devs have implemented checkpoints to avoid players missing any key story beats.
