Dead By Daylight Bots In Custom Games Confirmed For 2022

Dead By Daylight Bots In Custom Games Confirmed For 2022

At the very heart of Dead By Daylight is a multiplayer game. It’s 4 survivors vs 1 killer in an asymmetric dance with death and whilst there’s been numerous updates and changes to the game over the years, this fundamental principle has underpinned the core game.

Despite this, some fans have also been keen advocates for the introduction of bots in the game, which is something that only really exists in the tutorial. The question is, will Behavior Interactive add bots to Dead By Daylight in the future? Read on, we’ll explain everything we know about the situation so far.

Can you play against bots in Dead By Daylight?

As of July 2022, no you cannot play against bots in Dead By Daylight. But it’s still a complicated question. Dead By Daylight Mobile has bots, but this is a completely different version of the game that is exclusive to iOS and Android mobile devices which launched in 2020. By comparison, the standard Dead By Daylight game on PC, console and Nintendo Switch, does not feature bots, but is planning to introduce them to the game in 2022.

Bots Are Coming To Dead By Daylight In 2022

Behaviour Interactive producer Aurélie Gérault revealed during the Dead By Daylight Sixth-Anniversary live stream that bots are coming to the game in 2022. Here’s what the team have said on the official blog:

Before the end of the year, Survivor Bots will be available to play with or against in custom matches. Familiarizing yourself with a new Killer or a new map can be intimidating and using bots will allow you to practice in a low-stakes environment.

“We know that learning a new Killer can take some practice,” says Justin Banks, Senior Product Manager on Dead by Daylight. “If you’re a high-ranked or even moderately player ranked, you may be in for a tough time during those early games. This will provide a safe environment for our players to jump into and smack some bots around while trying a new Killer Power.”

“It’s also worth noting that every time we release a new map players like to explore every nook and cranny,” explains Justin. “This a pretty safe place to do it.”

Not to mention that if a member of your friend group happens to be busy when that Customs craving calls, you’ll now have a substitute for any missing player. To be honest, this one may take a little bit longer, but we’re aiming to have this implemented by winter.

DBD Bots – What did the team say previously?

At the time of writing (April 29) there is no official release date for bots to come to Dead By Daylight, either as a new mode or as an addition to custom games. There are however suggestions that this could change in the future.

Earlier this year Behaviour Interactive released a survey (now closed) to players which touched on a number of topics, and one of those mentioned was related to whether players would be interested in seeing bots added to the game.

Whilst this is certainly an interesting development, we wouldn’t get too excited, since the devs have spoken about bots before, but obviously, it’s still not a feature that’s been added as of yet.

When DBD Mobile launched in 2020 game director Mathieu Cote was asked if certain Mobile features could be introduced to the console version of the game in the future, to which he seemed to suggest it wasn’t impossible.

“Well, the idea for us is the try to maximize what we get out of the work that we create for ourselves,” Cote said. “So if we create something specifically for mobile and it ends up being something really, really cool that people get excited about, we’ll of course try to find a way to put that on every platform if it makes sense for the platform.”

Pushed more directly on the inclusion of bots, Cote suggested the team would “probably run some tests” before suggesting that he was cautious against turning Dead By Daylight ‘into a single-player game’.

Can you play Dead By Daylight by yourself?

Of course, but you still need to use matchmaking to pair you with 4 other players to start a match.

Obviously, when playing as a survivor it’s much easier to play the game if you have friends to coordinate with, but if you’re the killer you’re already technically playing solo anyway.

Plus with the introduction of cross-platform play, you will now be matched with players across all platforms which should make the process much easier.
