League of Legends: How To Check If You’re Banned

Players are banned in League of Legends all the time, sometimes for legitimate reasons, sometimes for really innocuous reasons, and sometimes for really ridiculous reasons. Like recently when a League Of Legends streamer was banned for 14 days after being trapped in a three-hour match by trolls who specifically targeted her.

If you’re relatively new to the game and you’re not sure if you’ve been hit with a ban, read on, we’ll explain how you can check if you’ve been banned, as well as some possible reasons Riot have given you the ban in the first place.

Types of Bans In League of Legends

There are three types of bans in League of Legends. This includes:

  • Permanent Bans or ‘PermaBans’
  • Temporary Suspensions
  • LeaverBuster Penalties (quite common)
  • ID Bans (very serious, very uncommon)

These bans occur if there are some circumstances that have been done – may it be purposely executed or not. Examples of these are being AFK, cursing or saying something bad to a teammate or to an enemy, or any other things that could cause discomfort or improper behavior in the game.

How To Know If You Are Banned In League of Legends

It sounds obvious but you’ll know that your League of Legends account has been banned as you will most likely receive a pop-up message within 15 minutes of a game-ending, or when you next log into the game. Typically this pop-up will inform you of the ban and the severity.

For instance, if you’re found to be abusive or using toxic game chat, you will most likely receive the following message:

“Because a player-triggered review found your in-game comms extremely inflammatory and offensive, your account’s been permanently suspended. You are among 0.006% of League players negative enough to be permanently suspended. Other players have judged your comms to be far below the standard of the League community. The vast majority of players agree that while League’s an intense, competitive game, all players deserve respect on the Rift.”

And just to make you feel better(?), even some of the most high-profile esports professionals can receive a ban in League of Legends, as you can see just below.

How To Avoid Bans In League of Legends

Aside from the really obvious things – like not using scripts to cheat or third-party software that goes against the TOS (Terms of Service), and yes, even boosting – the easiest way to avoid a ban is to simply be nice to other players and improve your behavior.

Riot Games have a few tips which they “heavily recommend” so that you’re not at risk for further action. Their tips to not get banned are:

  • Turn off all chat
  • Mute people/pings/emotes the moment you feel the urge to respond
  • Remove chat window by pressing enter when in-game, seeing the bar appear, and dragging the bar outside of your game window
  • Rage verbally at the screen in order to not chat in-game
  • Play with friends and avoid solo queue
