How to fix ‘Files Required To Play’ error on GTA Online for PC

If you’re playing on a PC navigate to your Windows Firewall settings, find the ‘Outbound files’ option, and ensure GTA5.exe is unblocked.

The Windows Firewall settings are generally located in the Windows Control Panel. Find the Firewall Settings, go to Advanced settings and select “Outbound rules”. If GTA5 .exe file is blocked, right-click and select ‘allow’.

How to fix ‘Files Required To Play’ error on GTA Online for Console (PlayStation & Xbox)

Console players may be required to change their DNS Internet Settings settings in order to get GTA Online to run properly. The ideal DNS settings for the game to connect to the servers properly appear to be:

  • Primary 84.200.69.80
  • Secondary 84.200.70.40

Xbox users can follow the steps below to change their DNS settings:

  • Home Screen > Settings > Network > Advanced Settings
  • DNS Settings > Manual
  • Now change your DNS settings to match the above primary and secondary server settings.

PlayStation users will need to do the same, but by following the steps below:

  • Home Screen > Settings > Network > Setup Internet Connection > Choose Connection Type > Custom Setup
  • From here, select ‘Automatic IP Address Settings’ and choose ‘Do Not Specify’.
  • Now head to the DNS Settings and change to Manual.
