New Star Wars Games To Arrive Every Six Months, Report Suggests

Disney supposedly wants to release a new Star Wars video game every six months, as the company looks to ramp up titles for the entertainment behemoth.

The news comes via a fairly reputable source in industry insider Tom Henderson, who released the report on insider-gaming.com.

Henderson’s sources suggested that Disney would like to see one major AAA title and one smaller game per fiscal year, which is something Lucasfilm is reportedly set to deliver on.

Given that Star Wars was relatively absent from Disney’s recent D23 livestream, the news certainly comes as quite a surprise.

Currently, there are eight ‘known’ Star Wars titles in development, but many of these do not actually have a scheduled release date at the time of writing; with some clearly years away from launch.

However, as noted by Henderson and his sources “several more” unannounced games are also in pre-development.

For the sake of clarity, those Star Wars games we do know about, include:

  • Amy Hennig’s Game – Skydance Media
  • Untitled Star Wars FPS – Respawn Entertainment
  • Open World Star Wars Game – Ubisoft Massive
  • Star Wars: Eclipse – Quantic Dream
  • Knights of the Old Republic Remake – Saber Interactive
  • Jedi: Survivor (Fallen Order sequel) – Respawn Entertainment
  • Star Wars: Hunters – Zynga
  • Untitled Star Wars Strategy Game – Respawn Entertainment

Looking towards 2023 we already know which two games to expect first in this extensive pipeline.

Fans can look forward to Respawn’s long-awaited sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, along with Zynga’s Star Wars: Hunters, a free-to-play arena shooter for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

But looking further afield it’s difficult to know what titles we can expect first, since many have hit trouble in development or appear to be very early in their development cycle.

Henderson also teased that there might well be a game in the works based on the popular Mandalorian TV series. This was teased by Xbox Era’s Nick Shpeshal last year, but it’s unclear how much of these rumours are pure speculation.
