How to Kill Cleric Beast in Bloodborne

Everything you need to know about taking down the Cleric Beast, your first boss fight in Bloodborne.

Bloodborne is free with PlayStation Plus for the month of March, which means new hunters will be waking up in Yharnam to join in the hunt. The first boss typically encountered is the Cleric Beast, a twisted monster that belonged to the Healing Church at one point, but now slinks the Great Bridge in search of prey. Knowing how to kill the Cleric Beast will be helpful for those hunters still learning the art of the trick weapons.

How to Kill the Cleric Beast

Let’s get one thing out of the way, the Cleric Beast is an optional boss, but if you don’t cut your teeth on this hideous monster, you’re going to have an incredibly difficult time with the next boss. Upon defeating the Cleric Beast, you’ll be able to level up in the Hunter’s Nightmare, which will certainly help you kill Father Gascoigne.

In the event you can get close enough to the Cleric Beast without taking too many hits, try and focus your attacks on its large arm, as you will be able to stun it and then perform a visceral attack on its face.

The Cleric Beast strikes an imposing figure, but by keeping a reasonable distance when it attacks, and listening out for audio cues, you’ll be able to dispatch him. A headset such as the Stealth 700, with its Superhuman Hearing functionality, makes for an excellent aid, as you will be able to hear the Cleric Beast’s location, even if your back is turned while running for safety.

As for the actual fight, the Cleric Beast is easily managed by trying to stay behind it where it is unable to attack you. Try to bait it into a flurry of attacks, and when it stops to recover, run around to its back and land as many attacks as you can. Though attacking is crucial, you’ll need to manage your stamina so you can make a hasty retreat.

If you’re struggling to deal enough damage to the Cleric Beast, take some time to completely explore the area and you’ll find a few Blood Stone Shards. Take three Blood Stone Shards to the Hunter’s Nightmare and you can increase the amount of damage your weapon will deal. Why stop there? If you find any Molotov cocktails, put them in your equipment slot and throw them at the Cleric Beast when it sits still to deal some impressive damage.

In the event you can get close enough to the Cleric Beast without taking too many hits, try and focus your attacks on its large arm, as you will be able to stun it and then perform a visceral attack on its face.

Overall, you will want to focus on being patient and look for an opening for when you can attack the Cleric Beast. After you kill the Cleric Beast, return to the Hunter’s Nightmare to find the doll has come to life, allowing you to level up.
