Fallout 76 The Pitt: Release Date News, Gameplay Leaks, and More

Although the next update for Fallout 76 is ‘Test Your Metal’, arguably the biggest major expansion coming to the game in the next few months is ‘The Pitt’. This will mark the first of what promises to be many new ‘Expeditions’, a  type of free DLC content that’ll look to expand the borders of Fallout 76’s existing Appalachia map. It could, feasibly, help prolong the game’s longevity by a good few years, or at least long enough for Bethesda Game Studios to finally release Fallout 5, but that’s a conversation for another time.

For the time being, we’ve no doubt you’ll be keen to know more about The Pitt, so read on for everything you need to know about this exciting next chapter for Fallout 76.

What is The Pitt?

The irradiated ruins of Pittsburgh, are now known far and wide as simply The Pitt. This is an area first introduced to players in DLC released for Fallout 3. However, 174 years have passed since we last ventured to the devastated Pennsylvanian city, which has now become dominated by mutated monstrosities and other threats. There’s also another threat you’ll face, as The Pitt is currently fraught with a power struggle between the Union, an industrious and diverse band of survivors working to rebuild the city, and the Fanatics, a gang of raiders looking to expand their territory. Your goal is to provide support to one of the local Union chapters and drive the Fanatics out of “The Foundry,” which the Union had been using as their operating base.

Earlier today at QuakeCon 2022 Bethesda confirmed that the next major update ‘The Pitt’ comes to Fallout 76 on September 13.

May 30 - New Pitt-themed pennant available

Less than two weeks ago, Bethesda reopened the Public Test Server (PTS) to begin early playtesting and feedback sharing for their Expeditions Update (including The Pitt), which is slated to arrive in the live version of the game later this year. If you own Fallout 76 on Steam, you can fire up the PTS to begin exploring the Whitespring Refuge, completing Refuge Daily Quests to charge up the Responders’ Vertibird, and then using it to lead Expeditions to The Pitt.

In addition, Bethesda has announced that there’s a new Pitt-themed pennant that you can unlock for your C.A.M.P. in the live version of the game by logging into the PTS during this phase of playtesting. Bethesda says they will add the pennant to your account shortly after our Expeditions Update goes live.

Release Date

Update - At QuakeCon 2022 Bethesda confirmed that the next major update 'The Pitt' comes to Fallout 76 on September 13.

When is the pitt coming to fallout 76? For the time being Bethesda has confirmed that the Pitt will launch in “Fall 2022”. If you’re looking for a more concrete release date for the update, it’s likely that it’ll launch at some point in September 2022.

We’ve based this prediction on that fact that most seasons tend to last three months and assuming the ‘Test Your Metal’ update launches in June, we’ll likely see the following update (The Pitt) launching September.

The Pitt Teaser Trailer

For the time being we’ve only seen one trailer released for Fallout 76’s The Pitt update, and it’s only a small teaser released during Bethesda’s E3 Showcase in 2021. Take a look just below:

Fallout 76 The Pitt Gameplay

In May 2022 Bethesda re-opened the game’s Public Test Server (PTS) precisely so they could get players to test the new upcoming Expeditions feature.

“This is major new feature for Fallout 76 that will take you beyond the reaches of Appalachia for the very first time, with repeatable Missions that are tuned for our higher-level players.”

The Pitt is effectively the first ‘off-map’ location players will be exploring and explore they did when the PTS went live, giving players a test of what to expect when the update drops later this year for the wider community.
