Grab Your Friends And Create Chaos In The Outriders Free Demo

The launch of a new intellectual property is always tough.  The industry is dominated by big-budget sequels in franchises that have been around for decades now.  That said, every major series had to start somewhere.  Square-Enix is hoping 2021 can be that start for Outriders, a 1-3 player co-op RPG created by People Can Fly.

People Can Fly certainly has the pedigree for creating a series that catches the public’s attention.  They’ve previously worked on the Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and Gears of War IP, which are certainly well-known by gamers the world over.  Now People Can Fly is trying to carve out something new with their work on Outriders, and they’re giving players the chance to check things out with a free demo.

The demo for Outriders lets you experience both the prologue and opening hours of the game, which takes place on the planet Enoch.  When humans set out to colonize the planet, they unfortunately encountered what is now known as The Anomaly; an energy storm that forever changes anyone that comes in contact with it.  Those who’ve dabbled with The Anomaly are now the wielders of unique superpowers, which no doubt makes the fight between colonists and inhabitants flashy, but that much more dangerous as well.

While you can run through the Outriders demo alone, this taste of the full experience is best played with friends at your side.  You can have two other buddies join in on the demo via drop-in/drop-out co-op, letting anyone swing by and sample what the game is all about.  There’s plenty to enjoy as well, as this rather beefy demo gives you roughly 3 hours of content to dive into.  That means you have more than enough opportunity to experiment with the game’s engaging mix of traditional gunplay and over-the-top superpowers.

Even better, the Outriders demo gives you access to all four player classes you’ll find in the final game.  You can spend your time with the fiery Pyromancer, the time-twisting Trickster, the seismic Devastator, and the machine-obsessed Technomancer.  Again, each class will give you access to standard weapons like shotguns and assault rifles, but mixing those with the abilities of your class can lead to wildly different experiences.  The demo gives you a perfect chance to learn each class to see which feels right to you.  You and your friends can figure out your game plan and see how to string together the perfect offense, and then take that knowledge into the full game.

The Outriders demo does give you access to all four classes, but it won’t let you completely build out your player.  You’re able to grind away up to the Level 7 progress cap, but you’re locked out from further progression from there.  By the time you reach Level 7, you’ll have access to the first four skills for each class, which should be just enough to whet your appetite for the other abilities each class holds.  Best of all, you can take all the progress you’ve made in the demo and transfer it over to the full game.  That includes the various customizations you’ve made to your character as well.

If you’ve been on the fence with Outriders, there’s no reason to wonder anymore.  You can snag the demo for free and get a very good idea of what the game is like.  If you enjoy what you play, you can look forward to checking out the complete adventure on April 1st, 2021.  Outriders is set for launch on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
