Detective Pikachu 2 Is ‘Nearing Release’, According To A Developer’s LinkedIn Profile

Detective Pikachu 2 has been a long time coming, having been first announced way back in 2019 by the Pokémon Company.

Thankfully it looks as though the game should be on its way fairly soon, after a LinkedIn page for one Senior Programmer appeared to suggest that the project was finally nearing completion.

As spotted by a Famiboards user (via Nintendolife), the LinkedIn page for Creatures Inc and PTCG Development Division Senior Programmer Jonathan Murphy notes that he’s currently working on an “unannounced project” and Detective Pikachu 2, which is “nearing release”.

Very little is known about the sequel beyond the fact that Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara had suggested it will continue the story of the original 3DS game released in 2016.

Since that original videogame release, the Pokemon company also released the moderately successful Detective Pikachu film in 2019 starring Justice Smith and Ryan Reynolds as the voice and facial motion capture of Pikachu.

However, it doesn’t appear as though a sequel to the film is in the works, with Smith previously telling Inverse that he doesn’t think it will happen.

“I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2” Smith said, adding: “I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I think we have to just kind of bury our hopes. I don’t think it’s going to happen. I really hope so though. Honestly, I’m such a huge fan, who knows, who knows? I hope so.”
