Elden Ring Shatters Sales Records, Selling Over 20 Million Copies

Elden Ring, the action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, has set a new record by selling over 20 million copies. The announcement was made by Bandai Namco on February 22, 2023, just days before the game’s one-year anniversary since its launch on February 25, 2022.

In a press release, FromSoftware thanked its fans for their continued support, saying “Both Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware, Inc. are very thankful for each and every player stepping into this world.” Elden Ring’s massive success is in part due to the involvement of George R.R. Martin in the creation of the game’s lore, as well as its many accolades, including winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022.

Game of the Year 2022

Elden Ring has been widely acclaimed and is widely considered one of the best games of 2022. Its exceptional performance is evident in the numerous Game of the Year awards it has won, including IGN’s and GameSpot’s Game of the Year 2022, the Steam Awards’ Game of the Year, and over 400 other awards from various outlets and readers’ choice polls.

In comparison, the only game that came close to Elden Ring’s numerous awards was God of War Ragnarok, which won 98 such awards.

Continued Success

Elden Ring continues to be one of the top-selling games of the moment, ranked 6th on a list of games sold in the US in January. Although no announcement has been made regarding the game’s DLC, dataminers speculate that it will include at least one legacy dungeon and involve the enigmatic god Miquella in some fashion.

Elden Ring’s commercial and critical success is a testament to the game’s quality and the hard work put into its development. The involvement of George R.R. Martin and the various accolades it has won have contributed to its continued success. While fans eagerly await news of upcoming DLC, they can continue to enjoy the immersive and challenging experience that Elden Ring offers.
