Call of Duty To Integrate NFTs, New Leak Claims

Activision is reportedly considering adding NFTs in future Call of Duty games, a very reliable insider has claimed.

This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise given NFT’s – regardless of what you think of them – are proving more and more popular with companies keen on integrating digital collectables into games. This despite the obvious problems with NFT’s, ranging from their environmental impact to some being outright scames. In the case of Midnight Society’s Project Moon – a game made in conjunction with Dr Disrespect – NFT’s are used to give players exclusive cosmetic items.

And now, it looks like a similar feature is coming to Activision’s Call of Duty titles.

The latest report comes courtesy of known Call of Duty insider ‘RalphsValve’, who states that “NFT inclusion is reportedly being considered by Activision.” This is supposedly being done in line with an overhaul of several Call of Duty UX/UI features, which also involves personalising Activision accounts, including “Global Calling Cards & Emblems, Avatars and, Statistics”.

As you might imagine RalphsValve suggested that NFT’s have been ‘under review’ at Activision for quite a few months. That said, it could be these plans “totally fall through” which wouldn’t be surprising given how both EA and Ubisoft have swiftly changed their plans to NFT’s following widespread backlash.

This isn’t the only big news that’s been shared by RalphsValve of late, who in March claimed that Activision wants to remaster some of its older Call of Duty games to help fill the void as the company looks to move away from the annual release cycle.

Writing on Twitter RalphsValve told fans: “Activision are reportedly considering releasing Remastered Call of Duty titles repurposed for newer consoles to fill out the empty space between Premium Call of Duty titles. World at War, Call of Duty 1 & 2 – backwards compatibility for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered are currently what’s in conversation.”

In relation to other titles from CoD’s history, RalphsValve explained that “Everything else was described by an associate as ‘complicated'”.
