Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Brings The Classic Racer To The Future

Start your engines and get ready for some insanity because Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is almost here! There’s a little more competition on the track for the Italian plumber as Crash and his merry band of friends and enemies are returning to the track in a fully remastered version of the original. Before it launches, we thought we’d take a look at what’s coming to the game.

Customize your kart

Right from the start, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will have a whole lot of customization. You will be able to stylize your kart to match your personality and even change your chosen character’s appearance. This will no doubt add a lot of replay value as you race around trying to unlock everything on offer.

There are also unlockable characters, including Nitros Oxide. You’ll be able to play as him with his hovercraft, but first you’ll need to complete the game.

Remastered Tracks

Racers at the starting line in Crash Team Racing Nitro-FueledPart of the appeal of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is that it’s fully remastered. Everything in the game has received a visual overhaul, including the line-up of characters and the iconic tracks. Crash Cove in the N’Sanity Beach has received a fresh lick of paint, as has the likes of Polar Pass and Dingo Canyon. But the excitement doesn’t end there because…

New tracks

Pyramid track entrance in Crash Team Racing Nitro-FueledNew tracks are coming to Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled! Not only are tracks from Crash Team Racing making their way into the remasterd game, but so are tracks from Crash Nitro Kart. These tracks, along with the originals, bring the total up to a whopping 31.

Destructoid recently wrote about some new additions coming to the game post-launch. Players will be able to participate in the Grand Prix, an event that kicks off on July 3 that will introduce a new track, Twilight Tour. This limited-time event will also include all kinds of customizations for players to unlock. This is part of a series of planned events that will see the game evolving well after its release.

Battle Arena

In Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, you’ll be able to take to some of the most iconic arenas (including those in Crash Nitro Kart) and play a multitude of game modes. There are a whole collection of modes you’ll be able to play:

  • Limit Battle
  • Capture the Flag
  • Crystal Grab
  • Last Kart Driving
  • Steal the Bacon

We can’t wait to see how our old skills and knowledge hold up, especially given it’s been 20 years since the original game released.

PS4 Exclusive

One awesome addition coming to Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for PlayStation owners are retro skins! Players will be able to take Crash back to his blocky PS1 days where his fur wasn’t so much fur as it was a flat surface. To make it a bit more appealing to the eyes, the skin will look sharper than its blurry 1999 counterpart. But Crash isn’t the only one receiving this special treatment, Coco and Cortex will have their modern polygons swapped for the old-school low-poly models too.

We’re pumping the accelerator in preparation for the release of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled so we can jet out of the gate as fast as possible! You can pick up the remastered title on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 on June 21. What do you think of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments.
