Battlefield 2042 Teases New ‘Infantry-Only Gameplay’ Mode Coming October

Battlefield 2042 Teases New ‘Infantry-Only Gameplay’ Mode Coming October

It’s been a busy day for Battlefield 2042, having rolled out the game’s latest update earlier this morning.

Update 2.1 has made quite a few changes to the game, including a reworked version of the Renewal map,  the introduction of the new Polaris RZR two-person buggy, three new weapons, and a whole assortment of balance changes, improvements, and fixes.

But tucked deep inside this treasure trove of updates available to the game was the promise for a new event coming in October called ‘The Liquidators’ which sounds quite exciting.

Typically Battlefield is known for its expansive maps, and array of vehicles, but ‘The Liquidators’ event will offer more or less the complete opposite.

As per DICE, players should expect “new earnable cosmetics alongside infantry-only gameplay with tight playspaces and intense close-quarters combat”.

It’s quite the departure for the series but will be certainly intriguing to see how players respond to a smaller, more intimate firefight.

The Liquidators event is due to arrive “mid-October”, with more details to be shared in the coming weeks.

The latest update is the game’s most recent attempt to try and reverse the fortunes of the game following a disappointing launch.

More recently Vince Zampella – the Respawn co-founder who is now also overseeing the Battlefield franchise – delivered a brutal assessment of the failed launch, suggesting DICE “strayed a little too far from what Battlefield is.”

Despite this, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson believes the ongoing confusion around Call of Duty’s future on PlayStation could create “a tremendous opportunity” for Battlefield in the future.
