Halloween Havoc Hits Warzone In “Haunting of Verdansk”

Activision is leaning hard into Halloween with the latest update to Call of Duty: Warzone.  Players have been inundated with spooky offerings and scary features now that the “Haunting of Verdansk” content drop has launched.  From horror icons to new weapons, this Season Six update makes the world of Warzone a crazier place than ever before.

Horror Legends

Multiple special bundles are up for purchase as part of the Haunting of Verdansk update, and they include characters that define what the horror genre is all about.  Get ready to welcome the worlds of SAW and Texas Chainsaw Massacre to the battlefield.

On the SAW side of things, players can don a skin for Billy the Puppet, which is sure to scare the life out of any other operators you sneak up on.  While that’s definitely the most striking piece of content in the bundle, it’s not the only thing your hard-earned cash will net you.  In terms of weapons, the SAW bundle includes the Phlebotomozier Lethal Equipment piece, and blueprints for a SAW-themed Assault Rifle and Shotgun.  Along with that, you’ll get to enjoy a Cargo Truck skin, tricycle Charm, and four other pieces of custom content.

The older horror fans out there will no doubt flock to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre bundle.  Purchasing this option will grant you a skin for Leatherface, one of the most unsettling characters the horror genre has ever seen.  Of course, it wouldn’t be Leatherface without his trusty chainsaw, which is exactly what the “Family Heirloom” LMG blueprint unlocks.  If you’d like to stick with more melee-focused attacks, you can also enjoy the “Anybody Home?” blueprint, which gives you a one-handed hammer to swing about wildly.  Finally, the bundle also packs in an SMG blueprint weapon, a vehicle horn, and five additional Texas Chainsaw Massacre-themed items.

Activision is also offering a bundle that’s more firmly rooted in the Call of Duty side of things, but it still packs a spooky punch.  The “Dr. Karlov Lives” bundle lets you play as the maniacal Dr. Karlov, a man who’s been performing ungodly experiments in the depths of the Gulag.  The bundle includes a Dr. Karlov skin, two high-voltage weapon blueprints, an electric Throwing Knife, a vehicle skin, and a handful of other cosmetics.

Finally, Activision has teased a bit more in terms of bundles, but they’ll be coming at a later date.  As of right now, the “Ghost: Grim Reaper” bundle and “Mace: Dia de los Muertos” bundles are confirmed, but more specifics on each will be shared sometime in the near future.

Tricks and Treats Galore

Continuing with the Halloween theme, Call of Duty: Warzone is running a number of special events that offer a lot of limited-time content to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.  You might want to enjoy this content with the lights on!

A new limited-time mode called “Zombie Royale” is being added to the mix, and it changes a major mechanic in Warzone gameplay.  Instead of going to the Gulag when you’re knocked out of a match, you’ll now be turned into a zombie!  While zombies can’t use weapons, they can take advantage of super speed, massive leaps, thermal vision, and some seriously damaging melee attacks.  Even better, if you manage to collect two syringes scattered about the map, you can return to your former self and rejoin your squad.  Maybe being dead isn’t so bad after all!

If you’re looking for something a bit spookier, why not try out the “Verdansk – Going Dark” option, which is available in select Warzone modes.  This mission drops you into Verdansk under the cover of night, which is why picking up thermal optics via Loadout Drops is crucial.  While dealing with other teams and wandering through the dark, try not to lose your sanity.  The landscape is littered with nods to SAW and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so don’t be surprised if you hear Leatherface revving up his chainsaw in the distance.  Some even say there’s a gathering of ghosts hanging out at the old train station.  Whether you want to investigate those claims or stay far away is completely up to you.

No matter what mode you’re enjoying in Warzone, make sure you keep an eye out for special Trick or Treat supply boxes.  These could be your best friend or worst enemy, depending on your luck.  The boxes themselves could include the Epic “Return to Dust” Assault Rifle blueprint, “The Cleaver” Legendary Melee blueprint, a holographic watch, charms, stickers, sprays, calling cards, and emblems.  These boxes could also scare the hell out of you when you crack them open, as jump-scares have been implemented.  Is the risk worth the reward?  You’ll have to make the decision for yourself!

The bravest souls who manage to collect all 16 individual rewards from these boxes will be paid handsomely for their courage.  This is the only way to unlock the “Pumpkin Punisher” Legendary Assault Rifle blueprint, which is sure to make you a serious threat out on the battlefield.

This…is my boomstick!

Last but not least, this Call of Duty: Warzone update adds in some serious firepower with the JAK-12 shotgun.  This weapon has an open bolt blowback system, making it the fastest shotgun in the category.  Tracking this bad-boy down is going to be worth the trouble.  You can find it by completing the related challenge or pick up a blueprint variant by coughing up cash for the “Lacedaemon” Store bundle.

Happy Halloween!

This “Haunting of Verdansk” event marks the first time that Activision has had a Halloween-themed event in Call of Duty, so make sure to enjoy it while you can.  The fun is underway right now, but it won’t stick around forever.  All the above bundles, special blueprints, and other customization options are set to go away on November 3rd, 2020.  Get what you want now, because these items may never come back!
