Whilst we imagine there’s a legion of Elden Ring fans desperate for FromSoftware to release some DLC for the potential game of the year contender, it looks like the Tokyo-based developer could be working on a new IP.
However, the job description mentions that the candidate would be in charge ofa wide range of designs related to characters and mecha”.
Given the job description in question it’s easy to see how fans have immediately leaped to the conclusion that FromSoftware is working on a new Armored Core game.
After all, it’s not like we’re going to see any sort of Mecha in Elden Ring, Bloodborne 2, Dark Souls or any similar hack n slash title from the developer.
Of course, it’s quite possible FromSoftware is working on something related to one of its other Mecha titles, like a sequel to Metal Wolf Chaos. That might sound crazy, but since the company remastered the 2004 game only a few years back for modern consoles, it wouldn’t be completely out of the question.
That being said, Armored Core definitely makes the most logical move, given the series’ popularity and FromSoftware’s extensive experience having released upwards of 13 games since 1997.
Earlier this year there were plenty of rumours already swirling that FromSoftware could be working on a new Armored Core game when a consumer survey seemingly outed the game.
As reported by Eurogamer in January, ResetEra user Red Liquorice announced they received a consumer survey directly from the developer which revealed plot details, eight screenshots, and two videos showing gameplay.
“I’ve just finished doing a consumer survey about a new Armoured Core game with description, screenshots and two 30 second-ish videos of gameplay – the first a boss fight and the second more in-world gameplay, a snow area,” they wrote, holding back from sharing the screenshots as they are “unique ID watermarked”.
Then just a few days later, some of the supposed screenshots actually leaked. So it now just seems like a matter of time before FromSoftware outright come out and admit they’re working on a new mecha game; so we can all stop pretending it doesn’t exist anyway.
